Description

Make crispy bacon wrapped pig shots quickly in your air fryer. This recipe uses smoked sausage and cream cheese for a simple, savory appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage (like Kielbasa or Andouille), cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 12 thin slices of bacon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
  2. Place a small amount (about 1/2 teaspoon) of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each sausage slice.
  3. Wrap one slice of bacon around each sausage piece, securing the cheese inside. You may need to secure the bacon with a toothpick if it does not stay wrapped.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. If using brown sugar, lightly sprinkle the top of each pig shot with a pinch of brown sugar.
  6. Arrange the pig shots in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring there is space between them for air circulation. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. Flip the pig shots halfway through cooking (around the 5 or 6 minute mark).
  9. Continue cooking until the bacon is crispy and the internal temperature of the sausage reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Carefully remove the toothpicks before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy bacon, you can spray the bacon lightly with cooking spray before the first flip.
  • If you do not want to use toothpicks, you can secure the bacon with a small wooden skewer pushed through the center, but remove these before serving.
  • If your bacon slices are very thick, you may need to add 1 to 2 minutes to the total cook time.
