Description

A recipe for making crispy, cream cheese-stuffed jalapeño poppers using an air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large jalapeño peppers
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped cooked bacon (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut the jalapeños in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and white membranes. Wear gloves for this step.
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon (if using), garlic powder, and salt until combined.
  3. Stuff each jalapeño half evenly with the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Set up a standard breading station: place flour in the first shallow dish, beaten eggs in the second, and Panko breadcrumbs in the third.
  5. Dredge each stuffed jalapeño half first in the flour, shaking off excess.
  6. Dip the floured pepper into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  7. Coat thoroughly in the Panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs adhere well.
  8. Lightly spray the breaded poppers on all sides with cooking spray.
  9. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  10. Arrange the poppers in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary. Do not overcrowd the basket.
  11. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For less heat, soak the hollowed jalapeño halves in ice water for 30 minutes before stuffing.
  • You can make these ahead by stuffing them and keeping them refrigerated for up to 24 hours before breading and cooking.
  • For extra crunch, lightly spray the breadcrumbs before coating the peppers.
