Description
Make perfectly crispy, low-oil tortilla strips in your air fryer to use as a crunchy topping for soups and salads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 corn or flour tortillas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Cut the tortillas into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide. You can stack a few tortillas together before cutting for speed.
- Place the tortilla strips in a medium bowl. Drizzle with the oil and toss gently to coat all the strips evenly.
- Sprinkle the salt and garlic powder over the strips and toss again until the seasoning is distributed.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Place the seasoned strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding, which prevents crisping.
- Air fry for 6 to 9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time. Check at 6 minutes to see if they are golden brown and crisp.
- Remove the strips immediately when they reach your desired crispness. They will crisp up slightly more as they cool.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can substitute the salt and garlic powder with 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder or taco seasoning.
- If the strips are not fully crisp after the initial time, return them to the air fryer for 1 to 2 more minutes at 350°F (175°C).
- Store cooled strips in a container with a loose-fitting lid at room temperature for up to 2 days to maintain crunch. Do not refrigerate.
