Description

Cook tender and juicy filet mignon steaks perfectly in your air fryer with simple seasoning and precise timing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (6-ounce) filet mignon steaks, about 1.5 inches thick
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional, for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Remove steaks from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow them to come to room temperature. Pat the steaks completely dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the olive oil over both sides of the steaks, then evenly coat them with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  4. Place the seasoned steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch or overlap.
  5. Air fry for the following times based on your desired doneness (for 1.5-inch thick steaks):
    • Rare: 7-8 minutes
    • Medium-Rare: 9-11 minutes
    • Medium: 12-14 minutes
  6. For a better crust, you can flip the steaks halfway through the cooking time.
  7. Once cooked, remove the steaks from the air fryer. If using butter, place a small pat on top of each hot steak.
  8. Let the steaks rest on a cutting board for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing or serving.

Notes

  • Use an instant-read meat thermometer for accuracy: 125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium. Carryover cooking will raise the internal temperature by a few degrees while resting.
  • For thicker steaks (over 1.5 inches), you may need to reduce the temperature to 380°F and increase the cooking time slightly.
  • Serve with simple sides like roasted asparagus or mashed potatoes for a quick gourmet meal.
