Description
A simple method for making perfectly crispy French fries using your air fryer with minimal oil.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large Russet potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into uniform 1/4-inch thick sticks.
- Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl and cover them completely with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours, changing the water once if soaking longer. This removes excess starch.
- Drain the potatoes completely and dry them thoroughly using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. This step is crucial for crispiness.
- In the bowl, toss the dry potatoes with olive oil, salt, and garlic powder until lightly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
- Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Do not overcrowd the basket.
- Air fry for 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes, until the fries are golden brown and crisp.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, you can toss the dried potatoes with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch before adding the oil.
- Adjust cooking time based on the thickness of your cuts; thinner fries cook faster.
- If you prefer a different flavor, substitute the garlic powder with paprika or onion powder.
