Description

Make crispy fried pickles in your air fryer with less oil. This recipe uses a seasoned breading to create a satisfying crunch, perfect for a quick snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar dill pickle slices, drained and patted dry
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Cooking spray or 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Ranch dressing or dipping sauce of your choice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the pickle slices very dry with paper towels. Excess moisture will prevent them from getting crispy.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  3. In another shallow dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese (if using).
  4. In a third shallow dish, beat the eggs.
  5. Dredge each pickle slice in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  6. Dip the floured pickle slice into the beaten eggs, letting any excess drip off.
  7. Press the pickle slice firmly into the panko mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Repeat with all pickle slices.
  8. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Arrange the breaded pickle slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it. You may need to cook in batches.
  10. Lightly spray the pickles with cooking spray or drizzle with a small amount of olive oil.
  11. Air fry for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer.
  12. Serve immediately with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can double-coat the pickles by repeating the egg and panko steps.
  • If you do not have an air fryer, you can bake these in an oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Make sure your pickles are as dry as possible before breading; this is key for crispiness.
  • Adjust seasonings to your preference. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little heat.
