Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- For the Filling:
- 1 cup finely chopped apples (about 1 medium apple)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in the activated yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- While dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix chopped apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Punch down the risen dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a 12×9-inch rectangle.
- Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle the apple-cinnamon mixture over the butter.
- Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, cut-side up. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While rolls bake, prepare the glaze. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Use a medium apple, such as Fuji or Honeycrisp, for best flavor.
- Ensure your milk and water are warm (not hot) to activate the yeast properly.
- Don’t over-flour the dough; it should be slightly sticky.
- Adjust baking time based on your oven.
