Description

Make crispy bacon-wrapped shrimp quickly using the broiler. This recipe features a simple sweet and savory glaze perfect for parties or quick meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 12 slices thin-cut bacon, halved lengthwise
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your broiler to high and position an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top of the sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to create the glaze. Set aside half of the glaze for brushing later.
  3. Pat the peeled shrimp very dry with paper towels. This helps the bacon crisp.
  4. Wrap one half-slice of bacon around each shrimp, securing it with a toothpick if necessary.
  5. Brush the shrimp generously with half of the reserved glaze mixture.
  6. Place the wrapped shrimp on the wire rack on the baking sheet.
  7. Broil for 4 to 6 minutes, watching closely, until the bacon starts to brown.
  8. Flip the shrimp carefully. Brush the second side with the remaining glaze.
  9. Broil for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp and the shrimp is opaque and cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Remove toothpicks before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, stuff the shrimp with a small piece of cream cheese or a sliver of jalapeño before wrapping with bacon.
  • If you prefer baking over broiling, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Patting the shrimp dry is key to achieving crispy bacon.
