Description
Make crispy bacon-wrapped shrimp quickly using the broiler. This recipe features a simple sweet and savory glaze perfect for parties or quick meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 12 slices thin-cut bacon, halved lengthwise
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your broiler to high and position an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top of the sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper to create the glaze. Set aside half of the glaze for brushing later.
- Pat the peeled shrimp very dry with paper towels. This helps the bacon crisp.
- Wrap one half-slice of bacon around each shrimp, securing it with a toothpick if necessary.
- Brush the shrimp generously with half of the reserved glaze mixture.
- Place the wrapped shrimp on the wire rack on the baking sheet.
- Broil for 4 to 6 minutes, watching closely, until the bacon starts to brown.
- Flip the shrimp carefully. Brush the second side with the remaining glaze.
- Broil for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp and the shrimp is opaque and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Remove toothpicks before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, stuff the shrimp with a small piece of cream cheese or a sliver of jalapeño before wrapping with bacon.
- If you prefer baking over broiling, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Patting the shrimp dry is key to achieving crispy bacon.
