Description
Crispy baked cinnamon apple chips are a healthy and delightful fall snack. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients to create a satisfying crunch without added sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work well)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
- Wash and core the apples. You can leave the skin on for extra nutrients and texture.
- Slice the apples very thinly, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer is helpful here, but a sharp knife works too.
- Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Ensure they don’t overlap.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using).
- Lightly sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over both sides of the apple slices.
- Bake for 2 to 3 hours, or until the apple chips are dry and crispy. The exact time will depend on your oven and the thickness of your slices.
- Flip the apple slices halfway through baking to ensure even drying.
- Let the apple chips cool completely on the baking sheets. They will crisp up further as they cool.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- For best results, use firm apples that hold their shape well.
- Thin, even slices are key to achieving crispiness.
- Check the chips periodically towards the end of baking to prevent burning.
- These chips are naturally sweet from the apples.
