Description

Make delicious, kid-friendly Baked French Toast Sticks easily. These are perfect for quick breakfasts and everyone will love dipping them.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 slices thick bread (like Texas toast or brioche)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating, mixed with sugar)
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray.
  2. Cut each slice of bread lengthwise into three equal sticks. You should have 36 sticks total.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. In a separate shallow dish, mix the 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon for the coating.
  5. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, letting the excess drip off briefly. Do not over-soak.
  6. Place the coated sticks on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Immediately transfer the hot sticks to the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Toss gently to coat all sides evenly.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite toppings like maple syrup or fruit.

Notes

  • Thick bread holds up best when dipped in the custard mixture.
  • You can prepare the sticks the night before and keep them covered in the refrigerator. Add a couple of extra minutes to the baking time if baking straight from the fridge.
  • For an extra crispy coating, try adding 1/4 cup of finely crushed cornflakes to the sugar-cinnamon mix.
