Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the Glaze: 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, pinch of ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a standard 12-cup donut pan well.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, milk, melted butter, molasses, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
- Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into the prepared donut pan cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth.
- Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze. Let the excess drip off, then return them to the wire rack until the glaze sets.
Notes
- For easy cleanup, line your donut pan with paper liners if you have them.
- If you prefer a stronger spice flavor, add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of ginger.
- The glaze will set faster if you work in a cool, dry area.
- Storing these in an airtight container keeps them fresh for up to 3 days.
