Description

Bake these wonderful Gingerbread Donuts for a warm, spiced holiday breakfast. We keep the steps simple so you can get that cozy flavor fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Glaze: 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, pinch of ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a standard 12-cup donut pan well.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, milk, melted butter, molasses, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into the prepared donut pan cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth.
  9. Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze. Let the excess drip off, then return them to the wire rack until the glaze sets.

Notes

  • For easy cleanup, line your donut pan with paper liners if you have them.
  • If you prefer a stronger spice flavor, add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of ginger.
  • The glaze will set faster if you work in a cool, dry area.
  • Storing these in an airtight container keeps them fresh for up to 3 days.
