Description

Make easy, juicy BBQ chicken sliders baked in the oven using Hawaiian rolls and melted cheese. This recipe is perfect for parties or a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1.5 lbs cooked, shredded chicken breast
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar, Gouda, or Pepper Jack)
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, chicken broth, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until the chicken is fully coated.
  3. Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected in one piece. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Distribute the sauced chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the chicken mixture.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese layer.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and poppy seeds (if using). Brush this mixture evenly over the top of the assembled sliders.
  8. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  10. Carefully slice the sliders apart between the rolls before serving hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon over the cheese layer before adding the top rolls.
  • If you prefer a tangier flavor, substitute half of the BBQ sauce with honey mustard sauce.
  • Use pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to speed up the preparation time significantly.
