Description

Enjoy this delicious baked orange chicken that’s even better than takeout! It’s an easy and satisfying meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
  • Green onions, sliced, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another shallow dish, beat the egg.
  4. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, then into the egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs. Place the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and golden brown.
  7. While the chicken is baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
  8. Heat the sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
  9. Once the chicken is baked, toss it in the orange sauce until well coated.
  10. Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • You can use chicken thighs for a more tender result.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • This dish is best served fresh.
