Description
These Black Pepper Parmesan Scones offer a savory, flavorful bite perfect for a snack or alongside soup. They are simple to make and bring a wonderful taste of home to your table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3/4 cup heavy cream (or buttermilk)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Pour in the heavy cream all at once. Mix gently with a fork until just combined into a shaggy dough. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat or press the dough into a circle about 3/4-inch thick.
- Cut the circle into 8 wedges (like a pizza). Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving warm.
Notes
- For the best flavor, use freshly ground black pepper.
- You can brush the tops with a little melted butter before baking for extra richness.
- If you use buttermilk instead of heavy cream, your scones will have a slight tang.
- These scones freeze well after baking; reheat in a low oven to crisp them up.
