Description

Guide for assembling an attractive and abundant breakfast grazing board centered around smoked salmon, complete with suggested pairings and assembly steps.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 1 block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup capers
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 package mini bagels or sliced artisan bread
  • 1 cup assorted crackers
  • 4 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Optional: 4 oz soft goat cheese or brie

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dill cream cheese spread by mixing the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, chopped dill, and lemon zest until smooth. Place the spread in a small bowl.
  2. Arrange the main components on your chosen board or platter. Place the smoked salmon in one section, folding or gently rolling the slices for visual appeal.
  3. Place the dill cream cheese bowl and any other spreads (like butter or jam, if using) onto the board.
  4. Group the accompaniments: arrange the sliced red onion, capers, and lemon wedges near the salmon.
  5. Place the sliced hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado in separate piles around the board, filling in space.
  6. Arrange the bagels, bread slices, and crackers in fan shapes or stacks around the edges or in open areas.
  7. Fill any remaining small gaps with small clusters of herbs or extra capers to make the board look full.
  8. Serve immediately or cover lightly and refrigerate for up to two hours before serving.

Notes

  • For make-ahead preparation, slice the vegetables and prepare the cream cheese spread one day in advance. Store components separately and assemble the board just before serving.
  • Use a variety of textures by including soft cheeses, crunchy crackers, and smooth salmon.
  • Place small serving spoons or tongs near each component to make serving easy for your guests.
