Description
Make this rich, fudgy chocolate bread in one bowl for a simple, moist, and decadent treat perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water or hot brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix with a whisk or rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Carefully pour the hot water or coffee into the batter and mix gently until smooth. The batter will be thin.
- Stir in the chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Using hot coffee instead of water deepens the chocolate flavor without making the bread taste like coffee.
- For a fudgier texture, reduce the liquid slightly or add 1/4 cup of melted dark chocolate to the wet ingredients.
- This bread stays moist for several days when stored tightly wrapped at room temperature.
