Description

These Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies are a delightful holiday treat. They offer a soft, buttery texture and a sweet melt-in-your-mouth experience. This recipe honors family tradition while keeping the steps simple for your busy life.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop rounded teaspoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, keeping them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are barely set. They should not brown much.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes.
  9. Place the powdered sugar in a shallow dish. While the cookies are still warm, gently roll each cookie in the powdered sugar until fully coated.
  10. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack. You can roll them a second time in powdered sugar once cooled for a thicker coating, if desired.

Notes

  • For the best snowball texture, make sure your butter is truly softened, not melted.
  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before rolling helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much.
  • Use mini chocolate chips so they distribute evenly without making the dough too crumbly.
  • Rolling the cookies while they are slightly warm helps the first layer of powdered sugar adhere well.
