Instructions
- Arrange the bread cubes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Let it soak for at least 15 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and flour until a crumbly mixture forms. Stir in the nuts if using.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the soaked bread.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the French toast bake is puffed, golden brown, and set in the center.
