Description

This classic apple crisp recipe offers a warm, comforting dessert perfect for any occasion. It features tender baked apples topped with a sweet, buttery oat crumble, creating a delightful contrast in textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt.
  4. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers, a pastry blender, or two forks to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let the apple crisp cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. It is delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of ground cloves or allspice to the apple mixture.
  • If you prefer a softer topping, you can slightly reduce the baking time.
  • Store leftover apple crisp covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
