Description

A classic beef lasagna recipe that’s hearty, comforting, and perfect for family dinners. This easy-to-follow dish features layers of tender pasta, savory ground beef, rich tomato sauce, and creamy cheese, creating a crowd-pleasing meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until the beef is no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
  6. In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  7. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Arrange 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  9. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  10. Sprinkle one-third of the mozzarella cheese over the ricotta.
  11. Spoon about one-third of the remaining meat sauce over the mozzarella.
  12. Repeat layers: noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, half of the remaining mozzarella, and half of the remaining meat sauce.
  13. Top with the final layer of noodles, remaining meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella cheese.
  14. Cover the baking dish with foil.
  15. Bake for 25 minutes.
  16. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
  17. Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, you can add a splash of red wine to the simmering sauce.
  • If you prefer a smoother ricotta layer, you can blend the ricotta, egg, and Parmesan cheese in a food processor.
  • Ensure your lasagna noodles are fully submerged in the sauce to prevent them from drying out.
