Description

Enjoy a simple yet decadent breakfast with Classic French Toast. This recipe features bread soaked in a rich custard and fried to a perfect golden brown, ready to be drizzled with your favorite syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of bread (brioche, challah, or thick-cut white bread work well)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides. Let soak for about 30 seconds per side, or until the bread is saturated but not falling apart.
  3. Heat a lightly buttered or oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot griddle and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Serve immediately with maple syrup and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Using slightly stale bread works best as it absorbs the custard without becoming too soggy.
  • Adjust the cinnamon and sugar to your preference.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor.
