Description

Make a classic tuna melt with simple ingredients. This recipe features a creamy tuna salad filling, melted cheese, and perfectly grilled bread for a warm, satisfying sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna in water, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped celery (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices bread (your choice, white, whole wheat, or sourdough work well)
  • 2 slices cheese (cheddar, provolone, or Swiss are great)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery (if using), red onion (if using), and Dijon mustard (if using).
  2. Mix well until everything is combined and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to your liking.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  5. Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet.
  6. Spoon half of the tuna salad mixture onto one slice of bread in the skillet. Top with one slice of cheese.
  7. Place the other slice of bread on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  8. Cook for 3-5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make the second tuna melt.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy your warm, delicious tuna melt.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or a dash of hot sauce to your tuna salad.
