Description

Learn how to make incredibly crispy tofu in your oven. This simple method ensures a satisfying texture perfect for salads, stir-fries, or snacking. We focus on getting that crunch without the fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Press the tofu. Wrap the block in several layers of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Place it between two plates and put something heavy on top (like a cast iron skillet) for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water.
  3. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  4. In a medium bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with the soy sauce or tamari until lightly coated.
  5. In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Sprinkle the cornstarch mixture over the seasoned tofu. Toss gently again until the tofu pieces are lightly dusted. This coating is your secret to crispiness.
  7. Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not let them touch.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove the tray, gently flip each cube, and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and perfectly crispy.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is the most important step for achieving a truly crispy result.
  • If you do not have parchment paper, lightly grease the baking sheet, but parchment works best for easy cleanup and preventing sticking.
  • You can substitute the soy sauce with coconut aminos for a soy-free option.
  • For extra flavor, dust with smoked paprika before baking.
