Description
Make this easy, cheesy meat mixture served on toasted bread for a popular, crowd-pleasing party snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground pork sausage or ground beef
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Pinch of black pepper
- 24 slices pumpernickel or rye bread rounds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly toast the bread rounds on a baking sheet for about 5 minutes until slightly firm. Set aside.
- Cook the ground sausage or beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease completely.
- Return the cooked meat to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low.
- Add the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to the meat.
- Stir constantly until all ingredients are fully melted and combined into a smooth, thick mixture.
- Spoon a generous amount of the meat mixture onto each toasted bread round.
- Return the topped bread rounds to the baking sheet.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the topping is hot and bubbly.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- You can use small squares of French bread instead of pumpernickel rounds if desired.
- For a spicier flavor, add a dash of hot sauce to the meat mixture.
- This appetizer can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving.
