Description

Make this easy, cheesy meat mixture served on toasted bread for a popular, crowd-pleasing party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage or ground beef
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 24 slices pumpernickel or rye bread rounds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly toast the bread rounds on a baking sheet for about 5 minutes until slightly firm. Set aside.
  2. Cook the ground sausage or beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease completely.
  3. Return the cooked meat to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low.
  4. Add the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to the meat.
  5. Stir constantly until all ingredients are fully melted and combined into a smooth, thick mixture.
  6. Spoon a generous amount of the meat mixture onto each toasted bread round.
  7. Return the topped bread rounds to the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the topping is hot and bubbly.
  9. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can use small squares of French bread instead of pumpernickel rounds if desired.
  • For a spicier flavor, add a dash of hot sauce to the meat mixture.
  • This appetizer can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving.
