Description
Make these simple Caprese skewers shaped like hearts for a festive appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella pearls (bocconcini)
- 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- Small heart-shaped cookie cutter (optional, for shaping)
Instructions
- If using larger mozzarella balls, slice them into pieces about 1/4 inch thick. If using pearls, you may need to cut them in half or use the cutter.
- Use the small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the mozzarella slices and the larger basil leaves into heart shapes. If the tomatoes are large enough, you can also attempt to cut them into hearts, or simply use them whole.
- In a small bowl, gently toss the cut mozzarella hearts with the olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Thread the ingredients onto small skewers in this order: tomato, basil heart, mozzarella heart. Repeat the pattern if your skewers allow, ending with a tomato or mozzarella piece.
- Arrange the finished skewers on a serving platter.
- Drizzle the balsamic glaze lightly over the skewers just before serving.
Notes
- If you cannot find small heart cutters, you can carefully cut the basil and mozzarella by hand into small heart shapes using a sharp paring knife.
- For the best flavor, use high-quality fresh mozzarella.
- You can prepare the cut shapes up to one hour ahead, but do not assemble the skewers until just before serving.
