Description

Make easy, crispy homemade chicken tenders in your oven. This recipe delivers great flavor and texture, perfect for a quick family dinner or kid-friendly meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1.5 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with a wire rack and lightly spray the rack with cooking spray.
  2. Set up a three-part breading station. Place flour in the first shallow dish. Whisk eggs in the second dish. Mix panko breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in the third dish.
  3. Take one chicken tender strip and dredge it thoroughly in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  4. Dip the floured strip into the beaten egg, letting excess drip off.
  5. Press the strip firmly into the seasoned panko breadcrumbs, coating all sides well.
  6. Place the breaded tender on the prepared wire rack on the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining chicken strips.
  7. Lightly spray the tops of the breaded tenders generously with cooking spray for extra crispness.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, flipping the tenders halfway through, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tenders, ensure your baking sheet has a wire rack. This allows air to circulate underneath.
  • Do not skip spraying the tops of the tenders with cooking spray before baking; this mimics the effect of frying.
  • You can substitute panko breadcrumbs with regular breadcrumbs, but panko yields a superior crunch.
  • If the tenders are very thick, you may need to add 3-5 minutes to the cooking time.
