Description

Make your own Homemade Uncrustables. They are a cost-effective and customizable alternative to store-bought versions. You can use your favorite fillings and freeze them for quick meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 slices of bread (white or wheat)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (or other nut/seed butter)
  • 1/4 cup jelly or jam
  • Uncrustable sandwich cutter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay out 6 slices of bread on a clean surface.
  2. Spread about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on each of the 6 slices of bread, going almost to the edges.
  3. Spread about 2 teaspoons of jelly or jam over the peanut butter on each slice.
  4. Place the remaining 6 slices of bread on top of the filled slices to create sandwiches.
  5. If using an Uncrustable cutter, place it over the center of each sandwich and press down firmly to seal and cut the edges. Remove the crusts.
  6. If not using a cutter, use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out circles from the center of each sandwich, pressing firmly to seal the edges. You can also just press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
  7. Place the finished Uncrustables on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Freeze for 1-2 hours until firm.
  9. Once frozen, transfer the Uncrustables to a freezer-safe bag or container. Label with the date.
  10. To eat, remove from the freezer and let thaw at room temperature for 30-60 minutes, or until soft.

Notes

  • Vary the fillings with different nut butters, jams, or even cream cheese and fruit.
  • For best results, use fresh bread that is not too thin.
  • Ensure the edges are sealed well to prevent freezer burn.
  • These can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 month.
