Description
Follow these steps to prepare a delicious, moist Easter ham with a sweet and savory honey glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 fully cooked bone-in or spiral-cut ham (8-10 lbs)
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice (optional, for glaze thinning)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the ham cut-side down in a roasting pan. If your ham is not pre-sliced, score the fat cap in a diamond pattern, about 1/4 inch deep.
- In a small saucepan, combine the honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth. This is your glaze.
- Bake the ham for 15 minutes per pound without the glaze to heat it through. For a 9 lb ham, bake for about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- During the last 45 minutes of baking, begin applying the glaze. Brush a generous layer of the glaze over the entire surface of the ham.
- Return the ham to the oven. Continue baking, brushing with more glaze every 15 minutes until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If the glaze starts to burn, loosely tent the ham with foil.
- Remove the ham from the oven when it reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the ham rest, tented with foil, for 15 to 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If the glaze becomes too thick during cooking, stir in a tablespoon of pineapple juice or water to reach a brushable consistency.
- Use a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham, avoiding the bone, to check for doneness.
- For extra flavor, insert thin slices of fresh pineapple or orange into the diamond cuts before glazing.
