Description
Make fun and delicious Hot Chocolate Bombs, perfect for a warm treat or a thoughtful homemade gift. These chocolate spheres hold cocoa mix and marshmallows, melting into a rich cup of hot chocolate when hot milk is added.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz Chocolate (milk, dark, or white), chopped or chips
- Hot Cocoa Mix (enough for 6 bombs)
- Mini Marshmallows (enough for 6 bombs)
- Optional: Sprinkles or cocoa powder for decoration
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth.
- Prepare your silicone sphere molds by wiping them clean and dry.
- Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate into the bottom of each mold half.
- Use the back of a spoon or a pastry brush to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold, creating a full shell. Ensure the rim is thick.
- Chill the chocolate shells in the refrigerator until firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Gently remove the hardened chocolate shells from the molds. You should have two halves for each bomb.
- Fill half of the shells with a spoonful of hot cocoa mix and a few mini marshmallows.
- Warm a small plate or baking sheet by placing it near a warm oven or running hot water over it.
- Take an empty chocolate half and gently press its rim onto the warm surface for a few seconds until the edge is slightly melted and smooth.
- Immediately press the melted rim onto the rim of a filled half to seal the two halves together, creating a sphere. Work quickly.
- Decorate the seams or the top of the bombs immediately with extra melted chocolate drizzles or sprinkles before they set.
- Allow the finished Hot Chocolate Bombs to set completely at room temperature or in a cool place.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best melting and setting results.
- If the chocolate seizes (gets grainy), add a teaspoon of neutral oil or shortening to smooth it out.
- For a festive touch, use candy melts instead of real chocolate for easier handling.
- To use, place one bomb in a mug and pour 8-10 ounces of hot milk over it. Stir well.
