Description
This Korean Beef Bowl, or Bulgogi, is a simple and delicious way to enjoy Korean flavors at home. Thinly sliced beef is marinated in a savory soy-based sauce, then quickly cooked to perfection. It’s a comforting and satisfying meal that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as sirloin or ribeye)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon mirin (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Cooked rice, for serving
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, mirin (if using), minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid crowding the pan.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
- Serve the bulgogi immediately over cooked rice.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
Notes
- For thinner slices of beef, partially freeze it before slicing.
- If you don’t have mirin, you can substitute with a little extra sugar and a splash of rice vinegar.
- Feel free to add thinly sliced onions or carrots to the stir-fry for extra vegetables.
