Description

Make savory, quick Korean-style beef served over rice with a simple homemade sauce. This recipe is ready fast for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper to make the sauce. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is fully browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef. Stir well to coat the meat completely.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Divide the cooked rice among four bowls.
  7. Spoon the sauced beef mixture over the rice in each bowl.
  8. Garnish each serving with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute thinly sliced sirloin or flank steak for ground beef; marinate the sliced beef in the sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • For a healthier option, use low-sodium soy sauce.
  • Serve with kimchi or quick-pickled cucumbers on the side.
