Description

Create perfect, make-ahead Mason Jar Layered Salads with this simple guide. Layering correctly keeps your greens crisp until you are ready to eat. Enjoy fresh, homemade salads even on your busiest days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Cups Mixed Greens (Spinach, Romaine, or Spring Mix)
  • 2 Cups Chopped Vegetables (Cucumbers, Bell Peppers, Carrots)
  • 1 Cup Cooked Grain or Protein (Quinoa, Chicken breast, Chickpeas)
  • 1/2 Cup Hard Ingredients (Cherry Tomatoes, Sliced Radishes)
  • 1/4 Cup Cheese or Nuts (Feta, Sunflower Seeds)
  • 4 Tablespoons Dressing (Your favorite vinaigrette)

Instructions

  1. Place your dressing at the very bottom of each clean, wide-mouth mason jar. This protects the other layers.
  2. Add hard, non-absorbent ingredients next. Layer the cooked grain or protein over the dressing.
  3. Add your chopped vegetables and heartier ingredients like tomatoes and radishes on top of the protein layer.
  4. Place softer ingredients, like cheese or nuts, above the vegetables.
  5. Finally, pack the mixed greens tightly into the top section of the jar, filling it almost to the rim.
  6. Seal the jars tightly with the lids and refrigerate. When ready to eat, pour the salad into a bowl, allowing the dressing to coat everything.

Notes

  • For best results, prepare salads no more than 3-4 days in advance.
  • Always keep the dressing separated from the greens by at least one solid layer.
  • If you plan to add avocado, slice and add it just before serving.
  • Use jars that hold at least 32 ounces for adequate layering space.
