Description

Enjoy warm, tender pears gently poached in spiced mulled wine. This easy dessert is perfect for a cozy evening.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe pears, peeled, halved, and cored
  • 3 cups red wine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 2 strips orange peel

Instructions

  1. Combine red wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise, and orange peel in a saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Carefully place the pear halves into the simmering liquid. Ensure they are mostly submerged.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and poach for 15-20 minutes, or until pears are tender when pierced with a fork.
  5. Gently remove pears from the liquid using a slotted spoon.
  6. Serve the warm poached pears, drizzled with some of the reduced poaching liquid.

Notes

  • You can reduce the poaching liquid further by simmering it uncovered after removing the pears to create a thicker syrup.
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
