Description
Enjoy warm, tender pears gently poached in spiced mulled wine. This easy dessert is perfect for a cozy evening.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 ripe pears, peeled, halved, and cored
- 3 cups red wine
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 whole star anise
- 2 strips orange peel
Instructions
- Combine red wine, sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise, and orange peel in a saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Carefully place the pear halves into the simmering liquid. Ensure they are mostly submerged.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and poach for 15-20 minutes, or until pears are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Gently remove pears from the liquid using a slotted spoon.
- Serve the warm poached pears, drizzled with some of the reduced poaching liquid.
Notes
- You can reduce the poaching liquid further by simmering it uncovered after removing the pears to create a thicker syrup.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
