Description

Assemble individual, layered trifle desserts in jars using fresh strawberries, graham cracker crumble, and light lemon-flavored whipped cream. This recipe requires no oven time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 10 full sheets, crushed)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Combine the sliced strawberries and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar in a small bowl. Let them macerate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other components.
  2. In a separate chilled bowl, combine the cold heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, lemon zest, and vanilla extract.
  3. Beat the cream mixture with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. This is your lemon whipped cream.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs with the melted butter until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
  5. Begin assembling the trifles in four individual jars (about 8 to 10 ounces each). Start with a layer of graham cracker crumbs (about 2 tablespoons per jar).
  6. Top the crumbs with a layer of macerated strawberries (about 1/4 of the total).
  7. Add a generous layer of the lemon whipped cream (about 1/4 of the total).
  8. Repeat the layers: graham cracker crumbs, strawberries, and finish with a final dollop of lemon whipped cream on top of each jar.
  9. Chill the assembled jars for at least 30 minutes before serving for best flavor and stability.

Notes

  • You can prepare the graham cracker crumbs and macerate the strawberries up to 4 hours ahead of time.
  • If you do not have graham crackers, vanilla wafer cookies make a good substitute for the base layer.
  • For a slightly tangier cream, use 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice along with the zest.
