Description
Reindeer Chow, also known as Christmas Muddy Buddies, is a festive no-bake snack mix perfect for the holidays. This simple recipe combines Chex cereal with a rich coating of melted chocolate and peanut butter, then generously dusts it with powdered sugar for a delicious and easy treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 9 cups Chex cereal (Rice, Corn, or Wheat)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Measure Chex cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute; stir. Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is smooth and melted.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal, stirring gently with a rubber spatula until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Pour the coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag.
- Add powdered sugar to the bag.
- Seal the bag and shake vigorously until the cereal is completely coated with powdered sugar.
- Spread the Reindeer Chow onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set, about 15 minutes.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Notes
- For extra festive flair, add holiday M&M’s, sprinkles, or mini marshmallows after coating with powdered sugar.
- If you don’t have a large resealable bag, you can use two smaller bags or a large bowl with a tight-fitting lid.
- Ensure the chocolate mixture is fully melted and smooth before pouring over the cereal for best coating.
- This recipe is easily doubled for larger gatherings.
