Description

Make classic Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy. This recipe brings comfort food to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 lean)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  2. Form the mixture into 4-6 oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms are tender and browned.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth. Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  7. Stir in Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Return the cooked patties to the skillet with the gravy. Spoon gravy over the patties.
  9. Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  10. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use ground beef with some fat for juicy patties.
  • Do not overmix the meat to keep the patties tender.
  • Adjust gravy thickness by adding more broth or simmering longer.
