Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped chocolate (semi-sweet or dark)
- For the Salted Caramel:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chopped chocolate.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- To make the salted caramel, place the granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar melts and turns an amber color.
- Carefully whisk in the butter until melted and combined.
- Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking constantly. The mixture will bubble up.
- Continue to cook and stir until the caramel is smooth. Stir in the sea salt.
- Pour the salted caramel over the batter in the pan.
- Dollop the remaining brownie batter over the caramel. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the caramel into the batter.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For extra flair, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on top before serving.
- Ensure your ingredients are at room temperature for the best brownie texture.
- Adjust the amount of sea salt in the caramel to your preference.
