Description
This recipe guides you through creating a delicious seared tuna steak with a zesty lemon pepper crust. It is quick, easy, and perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (6-ounce) tuna steaks, about 1-inch thick
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels.
- Rub olive oil evenly over both sides of the tuna steaks.
- In a small bowl, combine the lemon pepper seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- Sprinkle the seasoning mixture generously over both sides of the tuna steaks, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until very hot, about 3-4 minutes.
- Carefully place the seasoned tuna steaks in the hot skillet.
- Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness. The outside should be nicely browned and the inside still pink.
- Remove the tuna from the skillet and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges.
Notes
- Adjust searing time based on your preferred doneness.
- Do not overcrowd the pan; cook tuna in batches if necessary.
- A very hot pan is key for a good sear.
