A simple recipe for chilled shrimp served with a zesty cocktail sauce.
Ingredients

- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup prepared horseradish
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Bring water, vinegar, salt, peppercorns, and bay leaf to a boil in a saucepan.
- Add shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until pink and cooked through.
- Immediately drain the shrimp and plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
- Once cooled, drain the shrimp well and refrigerate until chilled.
- To make the sauce, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Mix well.
- Serve the chilled shrimp with the cocktail sauce.
Notes
- For best flavor, make the cocktail sauce at least one hour ahead of serving.
- You can adjust the amount of horseradish to control the sauce’s spiciness.
