Description

A simple recipe for chilled shrimp served with a zesty cocktail sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Bring water, vinegar, salt, peppercorns, and bay leaf to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until pink and cooked through.
  3. Immediately drain the shrimp and plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
  4. Once cooled, drain the shrimp well and refrigerate until chilled.
  5. To make the sauce, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Mix well.
  6. Serve the chilled shrimp with the cocktail sauce.

Notes

  • For best flavor, make the cocktail sauce at least one hour ahead of serving.
  • You can adjust the amount of horseradish to control the sauce’s spiciness.
