Ingredients
Scale
- 1 gallon apple cider (not juice)
- 2 oranges, sliced
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into your slow cooker.
- Add the sliced oranges, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and whole allspice to the cider.
- Stir everything gently to dissolve the sugar.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours, or on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours.
- About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the vanilla extract.
- Remove the whole spices and orange slices before serving, or leave them in for garnish.
- Ladle into mugs and enjoy the warmth.
Notes
- For a stronger spice flavor, you can simmer for longer.
- If you prefer a slightly tarter cider, use a mix of apple cider and apple juice.
- To keep it warm during a party, set the slow cooker to the WARM setting.
- If you do not have whole cloves, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves, but whole spices give a clearer flavor.
