Description

Make mouthwatering smoky BBQ pulled pork sandwiches on brioche buns. This recipe ensures tender pork with a rich smoky flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.5-3 pound pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 6 brioche buns, split

Instructions

  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, pressing it in.
  4. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker.
  5. Pour the chicken broth around the pork.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, or on HIGH for 4-6 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork.
  7. Carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board or in a large bowl. Reserve the liquid in the slow cooker.
  8. Using two forks, shred the pork, discarding any large pieces of fat.
  9. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker with about 1/2 cup of the reserved cooking liquid to keep it moist.
  10. Stir in the BBQ sauce, coating the pork evenly.
  11. Keep the pulled pork warm in the slow cooker on the WARM setting until ready to serve.
  12. Toast the brioche buns lightly, if desired.
  13. Spoon a generous amount of smoky BBQ pulled pork onto each brioche bun.
  14. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, you can add a bit of liquid smoke to the chicken broth before cooking.
  • Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce to your preference.
  • Leftover pulled pork can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
