Description

Make these Soft Pretzel Bites with Mustard for a crowd-pleasing appetizer. They are easy to make and taste just like the ones from your favorite stadium. This recipe comes from our family kitchen to yours.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.5 ounces) refrigerated pizza dough
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 2 teaspoons coarse salt
  • Mustard for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large pot, combine the 4 cups of water and the baking soda. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. While the water heats, unroll the pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into small, bite-sized pieces, about 1 inch each.
  4. With a slotted spoon or spider strainer, carefully drop the dough pieces into the boiling baking soda bath, working in small batches so you do not crowd the pot. Boil for about 30 seconds per batch.
  5. Remove the dough pieces from the bath and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the pretzel bites lightly with the egg wash.
  7. Sprinkle the coarse salt evenly over the tops of the bites.
  8. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite mustard for dipping.

Notes

  • You can make the dough bites ahead of time and store them on the baking sheet, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before boiling and baking.
  • For extra flavor, brush the baked pretzels with melted butter right after they come out of the oven.
  • Feel free to use your favorite dipping sauce, like cheese sauce or honey mustard.
