Description

Make a layered, refreshing iced strawberry matcha latte at home that tastes like your favorite cafe drink. This recipe uses a simple homemade strawberry puree.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (about 175°F)
  • 1 cup milk (oat milk recommended)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the strawberry puree: Combine strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.
  2. Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl to remove seeds, pressing down on the solids. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk or small electric frother until no clumps remain and a smooth, bright green liquid forms.
  4. Assemble the drink: Add ice cubes to a tall glass. Pour the strawberry puree over the ice.
  5. Gently pour the milk over the puree layer.
  6. Slowly pour the prepared matcha mixture over the milk layer to create distinct layers.
  7. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use oat milk or almond milk.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar in the puree based on the sweetness of your strawberries.
  • Use cold water to whisk the matcha if you prefer a less earthy flavor, but hot water dissolves the powder better.
