Description
Make a layered, refreshing iced strawberry matcha latte at home that tastes like your favorite cafe drink. This recipe uses a simple homemade strawberry puree.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon water
- 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water (about 175°F)
- 1 cup milk (oat milk recommended)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Make the strawberry puree: Combine strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.
- Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl to remove seeds, pressing down on the solids. Set aside.
- Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk or small electric frother until no clumps remain and a smooth, bright green liquid forms.
- Assemble the drink: Add ice cubes to a tall glass. Pour the strawberry puree over the ice.
- Gently pour the milk over the puree layer.
- Slowly pour the prepared matcha mixture over the milk layer to create distinct layers.
- Serve immediately with a straw.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, use oat milk or almond milk.
- Adjust the amount of sugar in the puree based on the sweetness of your strawberries.
- Use cold water to whisk the matcha if you prefer a less earthy flavor, but hot water dissolves the powder better.
