A classic summer dessert featuring layers of fresh berries, creamy custard, and whipped cream.

- 2 cups mixed fresh berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1 store-bought pound cake or sponge cake, sliced
- 4 cups prepared vanilla custard
- 2 cups heavy cream, whipped
- Optional: fresh mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Wash and hull strawberries if using, and slice larger berries.
- Arrange a layer of cake slices in the bottom of a large trifle dish.
- Spoon half of the prepared custard over the cake layer.
- Sprinkle half of the mixed berries over the custard.
- Add another layer of cake slices.
- Spoon the remaining custard over the second cake layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining berries over the custard.
- Top the trifle with the whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
- Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving, if desired.
Notes
- You can make your own custard from scratch if you prefer.
- Any combination of your favorite summer berries will work in this recipe.
