Description
Make this simple, deconstructed sushi casserole featuring seasoned rice, imitation crab, and a creamy topping. It is easy to prepare and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups cooked sushi rice
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound imitation crab meat, shredded
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons Sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for topping)
- 2 tablespoons furikake seasoning
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Nori sheets, cut into strips, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the warm sushi rice. Spread the seasoned rice evenly in the prepared baking dish to form the base layer.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the shredded imitation crab, mayonnaise, cream cheese, Sriracha, and soy sauce. Mix until everything is well combined and creamy.
- Spread the crab mixture evenly over the rice layer.
- If using, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the crab layer.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the topping is heated through and lightly golden brown.
- Remove from the oven. Drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle generously with furikake seasoning.
- Let the sushi bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with nori strips. Serve directly from the dish with a spoon or spatula.
Notes
- For a spicy salmon variation, substitute half of the imitation crab with cooked, flaked salmon.
- You can mix a small amount of Kewpie mayonnaise into the rice layer for extra richness before baking.
- Serve this dish with sliced avocado or cucumber on the side.
