Description

Make this simple, classic tater tot casserole using ground beef and a creamy sauce for a hearty, easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (about 32 ounces) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the cooked beef and onion with the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper until combined.
  4. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  6. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese and meat mixture.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly.
  8. Increase the oven temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the meat mixture.
  • If you want a cheesier topping, add another half cup of cheese during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • You can assemble this casserole completely, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before baking. Add 10 to 15 minutes to the initial bake time if cooking from cold.
