Description
Make restaurant-style spicy ahi tuna tartare quickly. This recipe features sushi-grade tuna mixed with a spicy marinade, served over a creamy avocado mousse.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz sushi-grade Ahi tuna, finely diced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- Salt to taste
- Wonton crisps or cucumber slices for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the tuna: Place the diced tuna in a non-reactive bowl.
- Make the marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sriracha, grated ginger, and half of the sliced green onion.
- Combine: Pour the marinade over the tuna and gently fold to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Do not marinate for too long to keep the texture fresh.
- Make the avocado mousse: Scoop the avocado flesh into a food processor or use a fork to mash until very smooth. Add the lime juice and salt. Process or mix until creamy.
- Assemble: Spoon a layer of the avocado mousse onto serving plates or individual spoons.
- Top with tuna: Spoon the marinated tuna mixture over the avocado layer.
- Garnish: Sprinkle the remaining green onion and black sesame seeds over the top. Serve immediately with wonton crisps or cucumber slices.
Notes
- Use only sushi-grade or sashimi-grade tuna from a trusted source for safe consumption.
- For a cleaner presentation, use a ring mold when plating the tartare on top of the mousse.
- If you do not have a food processor, mash the avocado very thoroughly with a fork for a smooth mousse texture.
