Description
Make this simple, no-bake snack mix featuring Chex cereal coated in a sweet strawberry and white chocolate mixture, dusted with powdered sugar for a festive Valentine’s look.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup strawberry flavored candy melting wafers (or white chocolate chips mixed with pink food coloring and strawberry extract)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon strawberry extract (optional, for stronger flavor)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed finely (for color and flavor boost)
Instructions
- Place the Rice Chex cereal in a very large bowl. Set aside.
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips, strawberry wafers, and butter.
- Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. This usually takes 1 to 1.5 minutes total.
- Stir the vanilla extract and optional strawberry extract into the melted coating.
- Pour the melted coating over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently fold the cereal until it is evenly coated.
- In a large zip-top bag, combine the powdered sugar and the finely crushed freeze-dried strawberries. Mix well.
- Add the coated cereal to the bag. Seal the bag, removing as much air as possible. Shake the bag until the cereal pieces are completely covered with the pink powdered sugar mixture.
- Spread the finished Puppy Chow onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set for about 15 minutes.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- For the best pink color, use high-quality pink candy melting wafers or add 2-3 drops of gel food coloring to the melted white chocolate.
- Crushing the freeze-dried strawberries finely helps the sugar coating adhere better and intensifies the strawberry taste.
- If you prefer a crunchier coating, you can skip the freeze-dried strawberries in the sugar mix and just use plain powdered sugar.
