Description

Juicy Beer Can Chicken is a simple and flavorful way to roast a whole chicken. The beer helps keep the chicken moist as it cooks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 3-4 pounds)
  • 1 can (12 ounces) of beer
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill or oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the chicken cavity. Rinse the chicken under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the chicken all over with olive oil.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the spice mixture all over the chicken, making sure to get it into the cavities as well.
  5. Open the can of beer and pour out about a quarter of it (or take a few sips!).
  6. Place the chicken upright on the beer can, inserting the can into the cavity. The legs should be pointing down to create a tripod effect.
  7. Place the chicken on the grill or in a roasting pan in the oven.
  8. Cook for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165°F (74°C) and the juices run clear.
  9. Carefully remove the chicken from the grill or oven, using tongs to lift it off the beer can. Be careful as the beer can will be hot.
  10. Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.

Notes

  • You can use any type of beer you like.
  • If cooking on a grill, use indirect heat.
  • You can add wood chips for extra smoky flavor when grilling.
