Description

These maple pecan scones are a delightful treat, perfect for breakfast or a snack. They are easy to make and filled with the warm flavors of maple and the crunch of pecans.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 8 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick.
  8. Cut the circle into 8 wedges using a sharp knife or a bench scraper.
  9. Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and baked through.
  11. While the scones are cooling slightly, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup. Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach desired consistency.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the warm scones.
  13. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Ensure your butter is very cold for the best scone texture.
  • Do not overwork the dough; this can result in tough scones.
  • You can substitute other nuts like walnuts for the pecans if preferred.
  • Store leftover scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
